More eco-friendly enthusiasts are coming out of the woodwork year after year. The effects of global warming on our environment are increasing, and more people want not only to help slow the progression of damage, but to ensure it is a more liveable place for future generations to come.

Are You Doing Your Bit?

Green living is on the rise across the globe, not just in the United States, which is the second biggest polluter worldwide after China.  In many areas across the world, recycling has taken off and in some cases, has become a way of life. And, this is not just a quest for the family home, businesses are also doing their bit to ensure proper recycling. Some cultures find recycling a necessity, as their own natural resources are limited and they don’t have sufficient funds to constantly purchase “new”.

Companies are making eco-friendly cleaning and pesticide products for use in the home. Instead of using chemical-based aerosols, more natural ingredients are used in the cleaning agents and bug-killing aerosols. These products are not only better for the environment, but are vastly better for you! Toxic fumes are hazardous and the skin absorbs up to 60% of what you put on it, so it makes sense to use safe cleaning products.

People are beginning to tend their own organic gardens. By eliminating the harsh chemicals that are released into the air and soil, they’re making all living things healthier, including the environment.

There are green living enthusiasts that are taking to walking or riding a bike to help save the air from harmful vehicle emissions. Some are making the most of carpooling to save money and to lessen traffic. They help the air become more breathable again.

Not Everything Biodegrades

Consumers are buying more biodegradable products – or ones that can be easily recycled. Everything we throw away goes into landfill sites, many of which are bursting at the seams due to our “disposable culture” habits. Much of what we throw out will not break down readily and contributes to contaminated soil and water supplies.

There are those who are cutting down on energy costs. The less energy used in our homes, the better off the environment will be. Most energy saving tips are inexpensive and easy for people to put into practise.

Water usage has reduced in the last decade. The more people become aware of the part they play in relation to our interaction with the planet, the better off it will be. Water remains one of the most precious resources available and we should not waste it!

Some people are even choosing to repair broken appliances instead of sending them off to the landfill. This not only helps the environment, but also saves people a lot of money in some cases. If it can be easily repaired, why not avoid throwing a perfectly good item away?

The bottom line is – more people start caring about the planet by making seemingly small changes, the better the earth will be for future generations to inhabit.
